	DECT site survey and voice channel planning New Challenges Similar to WiFi, DECT is also a wireless technology. In order to get the wireless devices (handsets) connected to the network, you need an infrastructure of base stations and repeaters. These devices must be placed in the whole building and also if needed in the outdoor area to ensure an optimal radio coverage and signal strength for the handsets. Furthermore it is important to consider previously the quantity of required voice channels within the buildings or outdoor areas to optimize the number of DECT stations within the framework of planning.

By means of DECT site survey and voice channel planning it is possible to define the exact position of base stations and repeaters before the electrician lays cables. Moreover the site survey defines the optimal quantity of stations (RTF) in order to cut down hardware costs to a minimum. Besides determination of positioning and quantity of RFPs, DECT site survey contains also planning of synchronization chains which are essential for DECT installation. Thereby some precautions must be taken. Therefore detailed preliminary planning and measurements are strongly recommended for DECT installations. The same applies to planning of numbering each DECT base station. This is equally important as channel planning of WiFi networks. Overlapping base stations (regarding numbering) cause malfunctions of handsets during productive operation.

During DECT site survey and voice channel planning it is tremendously important that all relevant information is available before starting the measurement. This contains the building plan (ground plan) as well as all available data regarding the building and interior fitting, e.g.

Position of fire doors
Position of possible metal cabinets
Structural composition of walls or ceilings (reinforced concrete walls, brick walls, wooden wallboard, etc.)
Position of meeting rooms and further information

After receiving and analyzing all these information, the DECT site survey can be performed by an Teldat professional at the customer’s site. During the DEC site survey the exact position of the RFPs will be defined. As a result the customer receives a building plan with the best positions of the RFPs. Based on these documents it is possible for a electrician to mount the whole DECT system.
